Congregational Covenant for First Unitarian Church of Albuquerque
LOVE: We, the congregation of First Unitarian Church of Albuquerque, gather in the spirit of love and covenant together as a religious community.
INTERDEPENDENCE: As we make decisions, we consider our connection and responsibilities to each other, to those who came before, and to those who come after.
EQUITY: We practice proactive inclusion, taking care to listen to all voices, avoid assumptions, be mindful of privilege, and unlearn bias. We promise to understand and validate one another’s perspectives and needs.
TRANSFORMATION: We learn and grow into a spiritual community, recognizing that as part of our process of growth, we will unintentionally hurt others and ourselves and need to seek repair. Invoking our bravest and kindest selves, we will honor relationship over comfort and seek forgiveness and healing.
PLURALISM: We seek to be a people of many beliefs, experiences, privileges, and intersecting identities. We commit to responding to difference with openness, compassion, and humility. We invite, affirm, respect, and nurture diversity, striving to understand how our experiences have shaped us and where our ignorance gets in the way of relationship. Our learning makes us better.
GENEROSITY: We practice mutual aid, receiving and offering support as needed and as best we can. We show up for each other fully and authentically, both listening and sharing to strengthen our connection to one another and to the community as a whole.
JUSTICE: We strive to remain aware of how power operates differently among us. Working on ourselves and each other helps heal our world. We honor all the ways we contribute to more justice in our community.
Our commitment to this religious community is a spiritual practice and source of hope.
