Assembled from the nominations of our community, your Transition Team is embarking on one of the most vital tasks of a congregation’s interim period. We are working with you to answer the question “Who are we?”—along with closely related questions like Where have we been? Where are we going? How do we want to be together? What do we want to do as a community?
So let’s start by answering a subset of that question: Who are we, your Transition Team?
Congregational Events
Appreciative Inquiry – In April 2026, after a church sponsored lunch, about 50 attendees were invited to break into smaller groups, each led by a Transition Team member. Congregants were invited to share their thoughts and hopes for First Unitarian. Stories were heard and data was collected. The data was then used to build a Word Cloud showing what thoughts were on the congregation’s mind. Concerns and thoughts that were raised more often feature larger in the Word Cloud presentation. Holding Steady Together – a 2-day workshop led by Rev. Jake Morrill was conducted in June 2026. Jake shared techniques and strategies, equipping the congregation with ways to function with greater clarity, steadiness, and shared responsibility, especially under pressure. About 30 members of the church participated.
The Common Read – Rev. Christine Robinson led interested members through the reading of Governance & Ministry, by author Dan Hotchkiss. Two sessions were held in person, with a recap offered via Zoom.
This shared reading gave interested church members common ground to discuss the way we want to organize First Unitarian Church.
