Caught in the Act of Generosity! Dave Wilson

by Chris Mayo for the Radical Generosity Committee
If you’ve seen a banner at church, whether it has to do with the annual pledge drive, the 75th anniversary, or anything else, chances are church member Dave Wilson created it. A graphic designer by trade, Dave is the owner of a small business: David Wilson Design. It is a testament to his generosity that he donates virtually all the design of banners and graphic art that goes into our annual pledge campaign. Most recently, he created the logo and made the banners for the 75th anniversary celebration. He also made the banners for the RE program. All of this work is done as a volunteer.

Dave and his wife Kristin joined the church “around 2013” after attending for a couple years. Their son David, like many of our youth, grew up in the RE program and formed many close connections. Dave doesn’t reserve his generosity just for First Unitarian. He has spent countless hours helping out with David’s Boy Scout troop, including a days-long canoe trip on the Green River and backpacking the Grand Canyon. He also writes the troop newsletter and helps interested Scouts earn their merit badge in graphic arts. He’s proud of David’s accomplishments in scouting. “He’ll earn his Eagle Scout standing soon,” says Dave. “He’s starting to sag under the weight of all his awards.”

Shortly after joining First Unitarian, Dave saw an opportunity to share his love of Tai Chi with other members. He’s taught classes for years and charges only enough to pay for the rental of the space.

Dave says his reason for dedicating so much time and effort for First Unitarian is simple: “I want to give something back and be part of the church process. Feeling as though I contribute to the church community and help the church work is what I find rewarding”, he says.
Dave’s generosity can serve as an example to us all. Thank you for all you do, Dave!
