11/16 – “Meet the Transcendentalists,” The Rev. Christine Robinson
Many a UU got their first hint that there might be a religion for them when they read Ralph Waldo Emerson and Henry David Thoreau in literature classes and heard that they belonged to Unitarian churches. These powerful thinkers brought the majority of UUs from liberal Christianity into a kind of open-hearted theism which many UUs still appreciate today, and who began the tradition, still important among us, of being fearless social change agents.
