A Wild Love for the World - February 17, 2013

Presented by the Rev. Angela Herrera

Philosopher of ecology Joanna Macy encourages us to greet the world wildly and with courage, even as it causes us heartache, for “the other face of our pain for the world is our love for the world.” It is possible to see with open eyes, and still have hearts that soar.

Building Your Own Theology - February 10, 2013

Angela Merkert, Alicia Hawkins, and Sandra Schroeder

One of the benefits of being Unitarian Universalists is that we are not discouraged from discovering our own spiritual paths. In 2012, member Angela Merkert, a graduate of Harvard Divinity School, offered, through the Adult RE program, a course entitled “Building Your Own Theology.” Today, Angela and two members of that class — Alicia Hawkins and Sandra Schroeder — will share with us the experience of working towards a personal theology.

A Church for Heretics - February 3, 2013

Presented by the Rev. Christine Robinson

Say it loud…we’re heretics, and we’re proud! We’ve been so from the very beginning, in both senses of the word. A heretic is someone who doesn’t believe what the church teaches, but the root meaning of the word is “to choose.” Come bone up on your UU history and celebrate the fact that here, you can proclaim what you believe!

On this 39th anniversary of the Supreme Court case that allowed abortion until fetal viability, we need to review the real meaning and need of this always difficult and sometimes tragic clash of rights and freedoms. Some folks share their stories, also.

A Faith for All Seasons (January 20, 2013)

"A Faith for All Seasons" - The Rev. Angela Herrera and Ron Friederich, M.D.

When facing hardship, religious liberals sometimes wish they could "buy into" the easy answers certain other religions offer for life's tough times. However, Unitarian Universalism really is a faith for all seasons of our lives. Here's why.

Economics for the 100% (January 13, 2013)

Presented by the Rev. Christine Robinson.

It seems abundantly clear the policies driving our economy (and the world’s economy) for the past 30 years or so have benefitted the most wealthy and have damaged virtually everyone else. Not only is that not fair, it is also hurting our democracy and everyone’s quality of life — ironically, even that of the 1%. What is to be done?

Blessing the Darkness (December 23, 2012)

Presented by the Rev. Christine Robinson

We’ll take a break from the Holly Jolly Christmas to consider the wisdom of solstice; that darkness has its beauty, that sadness and difficulty have a place in life, that it is ok, even at Christmas, to be who we are and feel what we feel. We’ll sing the carols that come in a minor key and find the quiet joy that comes from honoring what is. Music: Kimberly Robinson, soprano
